GET TO KNOW KRISSY

My name is Kristyn, but most people call me Krissy. I have a Master's in Infant and Early Childhood Development with a concentration in education, mental health, and developmental disabilities. Working with neurodiverse children/youth and their families has always been a passion of mine.

At 14 years old, I worked with my first autistic child.  At 14, I did not know a lot about autism, but I quickly learned how much joy the child brought to my life.  Over the years, she has taught me so much about patience, individuality, and connection.  Almost two decades later, I am still a part of this child's - now adult's life.

At a young age, I knew I wanted to have a fulfilling and passionate career in the field of autism and neurodiversity.

After University, I started volunteering as a movement therapist at the Empowering Steps Movement Therapy program.  I started as a volunteer and worked my way up to a supervisor position.  My journey of learning about autism and neurodiversity continued. As a movement therapist, I learned that the foundation of a trusting relationship fosters growth and development.  Over the 7 years working for the program, I was able to meet and work with hundreds of children and their families all with their own unique abilities and challenges.

After understanding the impact of the therapist's relationship with the kiddos, I was intrigued to learn more about the parent-child relationship.  This lead me to my journey with RDI®

Through my own personal growth and development, I have learned the importance of self-reflection and connecting with others.  It's our relationships that teach us and guide us through this messy world.  I continuously learn from every family and individual that I work with.
